We had a nice time at the 3rd annual Pumpkinfest. Because it was a bit chilly, we didn't stay to hear the bands play. There were quite a few recipes that included pumpkin in the mix, including Pumpkin Brats, Jack's Pumpkin Spiced Ale and the earlier Pumpkin Pancake Breakfast. But, I had my mouth watering for just a good old fashioned piece of Pumpkin Pie. There was no way I could pass up buying a whole Pumpkin Pie for $4.00. Well, that lasted about 3 minutes, um, after we sat down at a picnic table with six off us.

The picture is a 900 POUND buckeye'd pumpkin that was dropped onto 'Michigan style van' to honor the OHIO vs MICHIGAN Football game. Actually, there were three pumpkins that were dropped unto three vehicles. We witnessed two of the three, and got up front to watch the 'Michigan Van' get pulverized in a second. It was simply smashing!

The setup was an 80 foot crane that hoisted these pumpkins up and over a vehicle. Then a guy with the microphone started the countdown, and the crowd's voice took over. 10, 9, 8... KA-thunk, and that was it!

2020 POUND Pumpkin Pie sets the Guinness World Record

UPDATE...
A Guinness Conference was held Feb. 9, 2006 to announce results of the October 15, 2005 New Bremen, Ohio pie. Results were certified by Guinness in 111 days that the Giant Pumpkin Growers had set a NEW Guinness World Record. Congratulations to the New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers!

Ingredients included 900 pounds of pumpkin, 62 gallons of evaporated milk, 155 dozen eggs, 300 pounds of sugar, 3.5 pounds of salt, 7 pounds of cinnamon, 2 pounds of pumpkin spice, and 250 pounds of crust.

The pie was 12 feet in diameter and baked for 6 hours in a custom made brick oven. A one day festival was held to celebrate the attempt and the world's largest pumpkin pie was served until 8:30pm.
